Show or hide bundle widgets on specific bundled products pages

Which product pages a bundle appears on, how the store-wide setting overrules each bundle's own, and the save that resets every bundle at once.

Written by Andrey Gadashevich

Two settings decide this, and they are not equal. The store-wide one is read first and can reject every bundle on its own; the per-bundle one only narrows what is left.

The per-bundle controls

Both live in Bundle form → Advanced tab → Widget placement. The whole card is read-only on the non-primary variant of a running A/B test.

Show the widget on product pages of included bundle items. Tick this to make the bundle appear on the product pages of the products it contains. It is available on every bundle type and structure.

Select where the widget will be displayed. The button underneath, captioned "Selected items: {count}", opens the list of the bundle's items so you can pick which of them show this bundle on their own product page. It appears on Separate products and Product groups bundles, and is greyed out while the checkbox above it is unticked.

Every item is selected by default. The list is an exclusion list, not a blank one: unticking an item removes that item's product page, and the button caption reports how many are still selected. Leaving it alone is what shows the bundle on all of the bundle's items.

The store-wide setting is read first

Go to Widget customization → General tab → Global display.

Set "Widget on product pages" to No and no bundle's widget appears on any product page, whatever each bundle's own tick says. This is evaluated before any per-bundle field is read, so it is the first thing to check when a widget is missing everywhere.

With it set to Yes, a widget still only appears on a given item's page when both of the following are also true:

  • The bundle's own "Show the widget on product pages of included bundle items" tick is on.

  • That item is selected in "Select where the widget will be displayed".

Miss either one and that item's page shows no widget for that bundle.

Saving Global display rewrites every bundle

This is the one that catches people out. Saving "Widget on product pages" writes that same Yes or No onto every bundle's own tick, and saving "Widget on bundle pages" writes it onto every Physical bundle whose products each have one variant.

So if you set a store-wide setting to No and later back to Yes, every per-bundle tick is reset to Yes, and the exceptions you set on individual bundles are gone. Set your per-bundle exceptions after you are done with Global display, not before.

The bundle's own product page

The same card carries "Widget on bundle pages", with the same store-wide-first rule, for the page of a bundle that has its own Shopify product. The per-bundle control is "Show the widget on the bundle's own product page", in the same Widget placement card.

There is one exception. When the bundle offers a choice — any group with more than one product, or a first product with more than one variant — the widget always shows on that page, regardless of both the store-wide setting and the bundle's own tick, because that choice is made inside the widget. The tick is ticked and locked in that case, with the help text "Cannot be deselected if the bundle includes variants, as they will be chosen through this widget".

A hand-placed widget ignores all of this

If you placed a bundle with the copyable <mbc-bundles-widget data-bundle-id="…"> snippet, none of the per-item selection applies to it. The snippet carries only the bundle's ID, so it always shows that bundle wherever it sits. It still needs the app embed enabled in the theme and a bundle that is Active, in period and in the shopper's market.

Widget title and Widget description are somewhere else

These two fields are not part of widget placement, and they do not control which pages a bundle appears on.

Bundle product title and Bundle product description are on the bundle's own product page card. They set the heading and description the widget shows on the bundle's own product page, each translatable per widget language, and they exist only on a bundle that creates its own Shopify product — a Physical or Shopify bundle. Neither of them renames the underlying Shopify product, whose title is always the Bundle internal name.
