Discount amounts and pricing
I only see Percentage — I can't pick a fixed price
Sale price and Amount off only appear once the number of items in the bundle is fixed. Do one of the following:
Turn Optional products and the Quantity selector both off, or
Set Maximum items allowed to Limited with a number, or
Set Applies to to Individual product price (this works on every plan, Free included — see the plan note below).
With Optional products on and Maximum items allowed set to No limit, or with the Quantity selector on and no cap, the bundle has no fixed size, so only Percentage can be shown.
If a per-product Free gift discount is selected, there is no Type field at all — pricing goes through the "Free" tick boxes instead. Switch back to Standard discount to get Type back.
Only Percentage is offered — I want a fixed price per tier
First check which structure the bundle actually is:
A Tiered discount inside a Product bundle (Separate products or Product groups) is Percentage-only by design, because the shopper decides how many items go into the bundle, and only a percentage scales with a selection of unknown size.
The Volume discount structure offers Percentage, Sale price and Amount off on every option, with no limit on how many products the bundle holds.
If you want fixed per-tier pricing, you want Volume discount, not a Tiered discount inside a Product bundle. Rebuild the bundle with Bundle structure → Discount based on the quantity of a single product.
Can I make one item fixed-price and leave the rest alone?
Not exactly. The discount type applies to the whole bundle, not to one product in it. To fix one item's price, set Applies to to Individual product price and Type to Sale price — in that mode every product in the bundle needs its own price typed in, so there's no way to price one item and leave the others untouched. If some of the other items are your regular catalog items, add each one with its own normal selling price typed into its own row.
I want 2 for $15 and 3 for $22, counting units of the same product
Use the Volume discount structure: one option per quantity, with Discount type set to Sale price on each option. Set Required items to 2 and 3, and Discount value to 15 and 22. The app compares sale prices per unit (7.50, then 7.33), so this passes the "options must climb" validation.
I want 2 for $15 and 3 for $22, where the customer picks any 2 or any 3 from a set
This cannot be done in one bundle, and it is worth being clear why. The Volume discount structure is the app's only true tiered-price tool, and it only ever sums units of one and the same product — a shopper who mixes two different items never reaches a tier. Product groups with Applies to set to Bundle subtotal amount and Type set to Sale price does not solve it either: that sets one flat destination price, charged whenever the shopper's selection meets the bundle's minimum quantity.
Pick 2 items or pick 5 — they pay the same total. It is "any qualifying selection for one price", not "2 for one price, 3 for another".
The workable approach is two separate bundles: one built for 2 items at $15, one for 3 items at $22, each with its own minimum. The shopper sees both offers and picks the one they want. Set the priority so they appear in the order you prefer.
Can customers type any quantity instead of picking a tier?
Yes. Turn the Quantity selector on, set Minimum items required, and leave Maximum items allowed at No limit. If you want named preset quantities instead of free entry, that's what the Volume discount structure is for.
The price charged isn't what I expected, on a bundle without its own product page
A bundle that doesn't create its own Shopify product (a Widget-only bundle) holds no stored price — the widget price and the charged price are always computed from the same current data, so this is a settings question, not a stale-price question. Check, in this order:
Whether the discount is a Sale price applied to the bundle subtotal rather than per item — a Sale price is a floor for the whole bundle, not a per-product price.
Whether the figure you're comparing against is the per-item price rather than the bundle total.
Whether Display discount to customers from Compare-at price is on — this changes the crossed-out ("was") price shown, not the price actually charged.
Whether the shopper picked a different variant than the one you were comparing against.
Re-saving the bundle will not change anything here — that fix is for bundles that create a Shopify product (see "The price in the widget is right but the bundle charges the old price," below).
Products, quantities and variants
Can the customer choose how many kids/items, and each pick their own size?
No, not in the way this is usually meant. You fix how many copies of a product exist in the bundle by setting its Item quantity and ticking Uncombined quantity; the shopper's quantity stepper — the Quantity selector — only changes how many units of the one variant already chosen on a row are taken, and it never adds another variant selector. So a shopper-chosen count with a separate variant choice for each copy isn't possible: you decide the number of copies when you build the bundle, then let the shopper pick a variant on each of those fixed rows. Don't offer the Quantity selector as a workaround for this — it does a different job.
Can the customer take fewer copies than I set?
Yes. Tick Uncombined quantity so each copy becomes its own row, each with its own Optional checkbox. Mark the first copy required and the rest Optional, and the shopper can take anywhere from one copy up to the number you set.
I can't pick different sizes for each copy
Set the product's Item quantity ("Qty") to 2 or 3, then tick Uncombined quantity in Product settings. The one row becomes that many independent rows, each with its own variant selector — three copies of a T-shirt can be size Small, Medium and Large.
It deleted my product group
It didn't delete it — two groups holding the same product or collection are merged automatically into one group with a higher Item quantity, as soon as you add the second one. Tick Uncombined quantity in Product settings to keep them as separate, independently-chosen slots instead. If you see an actual error message when this happens, contact support and mention its exact wording — this is a case worth them capturing, since the merge itself isn't supposed to raise an error.
Will products hidden from search work in a bundle?
Yes. The app only checks three things about a product: that it has a publication date on the Online Store channel, that its status isn't Draft, and that it isn't Archived. Whether the product is hidden from search, collections or navigation doesn't matter to the app at all — if it's still on the Online Store channel, you can put it in a bundle and shoppers can buy it through the widget.
Buy anything else in my store, then get these cheaper
There's no built-in "whole store except these products" source for a bundle you create today. The nearest working setup is a Product groups bundle whose qualifying group is filled with a Shopify collection that you maintain (containing everything eligible except the discounted items), with both groups required. The app won't keep that collection in sync with your catalog automatically — you own it — so set it up and place a real test order before launching. One more thing to watch: if the bundle contains only the discounted products and every item in it is Optional, there's no real qualifying condition at all, and a shopper can buy just the discounted items alone at the discount.
There's no "All store" option
The Apply to radio (Products / Collections / All store) only appears on the Volume discount structure and the legacy Buy-X-Get-Y structure. Separate products and Product groups never show it — each group in those structures is filled with named products or with one collection, and there's no way to point a group at your whole store.
The Add collections button isn't there
Add collections only appears inside an empty product group, on a bundle whose structure is Product groups and whose type is Widget-only (the "Create a product" checkbox off). If the group already holds a product, or the bundle creates its own Shopify product, the button won't show.
I can't rename bundle variant #1
That label ("bundle variant #1", "#2", and so on) is a fixed internal marker written by the app on a Physical bundle with more than one price combination — the app uses that exact prefix to recognize its own bundle lines in orders and inventory, so it can't be renamed. If you need a shopper-readable variant name, use a Shopify bundle instead: its Variant name column in the Bundle components table is the editable equivalent, and it's what shows at checkout and on the order.
Free gifts
Clicking Free does nothing / where are the Free tick-boxes?
The "Free" tick boxes appear on every product row once you select the Free gift discount group in the Discount card. At least one product, variant or collection must be ticked Free before the bundle will save — otherwise you'll get "Select at least one product as a free gift."
I want the customer to choose which free gift they get
Two ways: put all the candidate gifts in one product group and tick Free on all of them (using the Free gift discount group), or attach a free-gift group to a single option on a Volume discount bundle (via that option's Free gift add-on). Either way, if more than one product sits inside one gift group, the shopper picks one of them.
Bundle type, plan and access
The Create a product checkbox is greyed out
The bundle's presentation type — Widget-only, Physical, or Shopify — is chosen once, while you're creating the bundle, and it's locked for the bundle's whole life once saved: a Widget-only bundle can never get a product page later, and a bundle with a product can never be reduced to Widget-only. To change it, duplicate the bundle from the Bundles list ••• → Duplicate, set the checkbox (and Physical/Shopify radio) on the copy before its first save, then deactivate or delete the original.
The checkbox is greyed out and says (PRO)
Check the shop's plan first. On current pricing — Free, Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4 and Enterprise — every plan, including Free, has full access to Product groups, Optional products, the Quantity selector, Applies to → Individual product price, and Create a product, and no PRO badge is ever shown. A PRO badge only ever appears on a legacy plan generation (Growth, Growth+, an older Basic, or Free on an older legacy plan). If you're seeing a PRO badge, you're most likely on one of those legacy plans — never assume an upgrade is required if the shop is already on current pricing. If you're unsure which plan generation your shop is on, contact support and mention that you're seeing a PRO badge so they can check the shop's plan.
The Optional checkbox on a product is locked on
The Optional box is editable only while that product is marked Pre-selected. If Optional is greyed out, tick Pre-selected on that row and Optional becomes editable again.
I can't find the Tiered discount option
Tiered discount only appears once the bundle is Widget-only (Create a product off) and either Optional products or the Quantity selector is turned on in Product settings.
I can't choose Volume discount on this bundle
Volume discount is offered while you're creating a new bundle, and on a saved bundle only while its type is Widget-only. If your saved bundle already creates a Shopify product, Volume discount won't appear as an option — the bundle's type can't be changed after the first save, so duplicate the bundle and choose Widget-only on the copy if you need Volume discount.
Everything on this bundle is read-only
This bundle is most likely the non-primary (B) variant of a running A/B test. Fields shared across the test — including the bundle's internal name, active period, countdown timer, markets, widget placement, subscription integration, "Exclude B2B customers," and bundle priority — are editable only on the primary (A) variant. Either edit variant A, or end the test and choose a winner.
It says 2048 max combinations
This is the cap on how many variant combinations a Shopify bundle can generate. Reduce the number of selectable product variants — Uncombined quantity and Optional products both multiply this count fastest. The "select Physical bundle type" remedy in the error text is only offered while you're still creating the bundle; once it's saved, the type can't be changed, so reducing variants (or duplicating the bundle as Physical) is the only route.
The price in the widget is right but the bundle charges the old price
Physical and Shopify bundles both write prices into a real Shopify product, so both hold a price snapshot from when the bundle was last built — a Widget-only bundle holds no snapshot at all, so this specific problem can't happen on one. Only the Shopify type self-heals automatically when a component product's price changes. A Physical bundle is not rebuilt by a price edit at all — it's only rebuilt when a component product's variant list changes length (a variant added, removed or renamed), not when a price is edited to a same-length value.
The fix: open the Physical bundle in the app and save it again — that re-reads current component prices and republishes the product. If several bundles on your shop are affected, contact support and mention that you need a shop-wide resync of your Physical bundles rather than saving each one individually.
Widget display and storefront
Is the app compatible with <theme name>?
There's no per-theme compatibility list, because the app has no theme-specific code for any named theme. Instead, the app looks for the theme's own add-to-cart form on the page and inserts the widget next to it. The honest answer for any named theme is: it's expected to work, nothing is known to be incompatible, and the way to be sure takes about a minute — turn on the app embed, open a product page, and see whether the widget renders. If it doesn't, work through the widget-visibility checklist; that distinguishes a setup gap from a genuine mismatch. If you'd rather choose the position yourself, add the app block in the theme editor and place it directly — that doesn't depend on the app finding a form at all.
The widget isn't showing
Work through this from the top:
Is the MBC Bundles App embed turned on for the theme you're viewing? (Theme editor → App embeds.)
Is the bundle's status Active, with a start date in the past and any end date still in the future?
Is Widget on product pages (and, if relevant, Widget on bundle pages) set to Yes under Widget customization → General → Global display?
On the bundle itself: is "Show the widget on product pages of included bundle items" ticked, and is the specific product ticked inside "Select where the widget will be displayed" if that modal applies?
Is every product in the bundle published to the Online Store channel?
Are you looking at a product page (the automatic widget only appears there — use the copyable widget snippet or a Featured bundle block elsewhere)?
If you've checked all of that and the widget still isn't showing, contact support and mention which of these steps you've already confirmed, along with the bundle's status and the page URL.
It worked yesterday and stopped today
Check whether the bundle's end date has passed. If it hasn't, re-save the bundle — that refreshes the storefront's cached data, which can otherwise lag behind a change you made.
Nothing happens, there's no error anywhere
A bundle whose start date is in the future is Scheduled, and a Scheduled bundle is deliberately invisible everywhere on the storefront — it doesn't raise any warning, it just doesn't show until its start date arrives.
I can see the bundle in preview but not on my live store
A Draft bundle renders in a theme preview and nowhere else. Publish it using the status toggle at the top of the bundle page to make it visible on your live store.
My discount doesn't apply in the preview
Preview shows you the widget, but the automatic discount is only built from bundles that are published and currently in their active period — so a bundle you're only previewing (not yet published) won't discount in preview even though the widget appears.
The Top/Bottom position setting does nothing
If a "Widget for product page" or "Widget for bundle page" app block has been added in the theme editor, the block's position there decides where the widget sits — it overrides the Top/Bottom setting.
All my bundles' widget ticks got reset
Saving the store-wide Widget on product pages / Widget on bundle pages setting rewrites the matching tick on every bundle in the shop (multi-variant Physical bundles are left alone). Re-apply your per-bundle ticks after changing the store-wide setting.
It says Pre-order on the Add to cart button
The widget shows "Pre order" whenever Shopify reports the selected item as out of stock but still purchasable — which is exactly how an item with inventory tracking turned off is reported. Two fixes: turn on inventory tracking for that product in Shopify with stock on hand, or rename the caption at Widget customization → Text settings → Products → "Pre order" (per language, if you have more than one).
Bundle product in Shopify
Where is my bundle product / I can't find it in Shopify
Go to Shopify admin → Products and look for the bundle's internal name, with product type "Bundle." The "View in admin" action on the bundle's page in the app links straight to it once it exists.
The bundle product page 404s
This happens on a Draft or Scheduled bundle — its generated product isn't published to the Online Store channel yet. Publish the bundle and the product page will resolve.
Countdown and status
The countdown ran out but the bundle is still there
The countdown timer is a display element only. What actually stops a bundle is the End date and time set in the Bundle active period card — check that instead.
Point of sale (POS)
My bundles don't discount in POS / the POS tile doesn't list this bundle
These are two separate things:
The discount applies to any matching POS cart automatically, with no tile and no cashier step required — this includes Volume Discount bundles.
The tile (for browsing and building a bundle at the register, and tagging the sale for reporting) only lists Standard Bundle, Mix & Match, and 1+1 Product Pack bundles built from individual products. A bundle outside that list simply won't appear in the tile — but it still discounts automatically when a matching cart is scanned.
If nothing is discounting at the register at all, contact support and mention that you'd like the "Automatic bundle assembly in cart" setting checked on your shop — POS discounting depends on it being on.
I've just installed the app — where do I start?
See "Getting started with MBC Bundles". The short version: choose a plan, then turn on the MBC Bundles App embed in your theme editor, then create your first bundle from a preset. Until the embed is on, nothing appears on your storefront.
How do I change the widget's colours, fonts or layout?
See "Styling and laying out the bundle widget". Most of what merchants reach for Custom CSS to do is already a built-in setting, and the horizontal/vertical layout switch lives in the bundle editor rather than on the customization page.
