Shop App

Which bundle types can appear in Shopify's Shop app, which cannot, and the one requirement that decides it.

Written by Andrey Gadashevich

Whether a bundle of yours can reach the Shop app is settled by the bundle type you picked when you built it. It is not something you switch on in MBC Bundles — the app has no Shop app setting, no sync step and no channel configuration of its own.

Only one bundle type reaches the Shop app

Shopify bundle. This type creates a native Shopify bundle product. It sells on the Shop app, on Shopify POS and on the Online Store. If you want a bundle on Shop, this is the type to build it as.

Physical bundle. This type creates a regular Shopify product. It lists on Google, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram the way any other product in your catalogue does. Anything the Shop app does with an ordinary product of yours is Shopify's own behaviour with that product — the app adds nothing on top of it.

Widget-only bundle. No Shopify product is created at all. The bundle exists only as its component items, with the discount attached to them in the cart. Having no product of its own, it cannot list on Google, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or the Shop app. It sells on the Online Store, and on Shopify POS for the discount only.

Volume discount bundles are always Widget-only, so they fall under the last case above.

The bundle type cannot be changed later

The type is chosen once, when the bundle is created. The control is disabled in edit mode and the server overwrites any type sent in the request, so a bundle built as the wrong type has to be duplicated and the copy rebuilt as the other type.

Two things also rule out the Shopify type while you are still creating a bundle: the Physical and Shopify options are disabled, with an explanatory note, if the Quantity selector, a tiered discount, or a collection-based group is turned on. A bundle that needs any of those cannot be a Shopify bundle, and so cannot reach the Shop app.

What has to be published

A Shopify bundle reaches the Shop app as an ordinary Shopify publication, so the bundle's own product and its component products need to be published to the channels you want them on. This is done in Shopify against the products themselves, not in the app.

The component rule is worth stating on its own, because it also decides whether the bundle works at all: every selected product in every group has to be Active and published, and a bundle is dropped from the storefront entirely if one of them is not. The bundle's product rows show the warning "This product is not included in the sales channel "Online store"" when a component is missing that publication.

Adding the Shop channel

Adding, removing or configuring the Shop sales channel is a Shopify task, and Shopify's own documentation is the place to follow for it. Nothing in MBC Bundles needs changing before or after you add a channel — there is no bundle sync to run and no featured-bundle setting inside Shop for the app to fill in.

If a bundle you expected isn't on Shop

It was built as a Widget-only bundle. There is no product to list. Duplicate the bundle and rebuild the copy as a Shopify bundle, if the configuration allows that type.

It was built as a Physical bundle. It is a regular product, not a native Shopify bundle. Its reach is whatever Shopify gives an ordinary product; the app does not extend it.

The bundle product or one of its components isn't published. Publish them in Shopify, then check the bundle's product rows for the sales-channel warning above.
