Learn how to make bundled products required or optional

Written by Andrey Gadashevich

In this article, you will learn how to control whether products in your bundle are required or optional, and how to decide if they should be pre-selected for customers.

Note: When a customer selects a required number of products from a bundle, the lowest-priced item is automatically discounted to free. This discount type is called cheapest product free. This is applied since this release version.

Steps to set which products in the bundle are required or optional

  1. Start by creating a new bundle or editing an existing one.

  2. Go to the Add products step.

  3. Turn on the Optional products toggle.

  4. Once enabled, each product in the bundle will display two options: Optional and Pre-selected.

  5. Configure for each product by ticking the options (Optional or Pre-selected).

  • Optional:

    • When checked, customers can decide whether or not to include this product in the bundle.

    • If left unchecked, the product becomes required and will always be included in the bundle.

  • Pre-selected:

    • When checked, the product will be automatically selected by default in the widget.

    • Customers can still deselect it if the product is optional.

    • If the product is not optional, the product will remain selected and shoppers cannot remove it from the bundle.

Note: If your bundle includes a collection instead of individual products, you can also enable the Quantity Selector. This lets your shoppers choose how many units of each product from the collection they want to add directly within the widget. When combined with required or optional products, the Quantity Selector ensures customers have flexibility in adjusting quantities while still respecting the bundle’s rules.
